Hi, I'm glad you found me! I am very passionate about pregnancy + birth and love to talk about all things birth related. I came into this work very naturally, and what felt like divinley; I was a massage therapist for 10 years and towards the end of my career, I only wanted to work on women. Men asking me for the deepest massage I can give left me feeling depleted and unfulfilled. I loved working with women and after attending a prenatal yoga teacher training, I surprised myself by only wanting to work on pregnant women. As I was giving a prenatal massage to a friend who was due any day, I had a vision that she could really benefit from what I was doing, while she was in labor. I went home and googled "massage during labor" and doula;
a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible." popped up.
Not to be dramatic but after reading that, it felt like the sky opened up, the sun shone down on me and the Universe said "YES".
It was a pivotal moment and from then on I read as many birth books as I can get my hands on, talked to friends and family about their experiences with childbirth, watched birth videos and attended a birth doula training in 2015. Still working as a massage therapist, I took a few birth clients here and there, or as many as my busy schedule would allow me to be on call for, but really dedicated my time to birthwork once the pandemic hit. Since massage (and the world at large) came to a halt, I decided to step away from my massage career and focus on birthwork. Since then I have been attending births, teaching prenatal and mama + baby yoga and my cup has been overflowing! Additional training includes certifying with the Body Ready Method® and attending Spinning Babies workshops.
Other Education includes a Bachelor's Degree from URI (2004-08), attending the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage (2010-11) and completing a Montessori Teacher Training for infants and toddlers (2021).
When I'm not working, I'm typically sailing or swimming long distances in the ocean during the summer, riding my bike or listening to The Birth Hour podcast on long walks in the Spring + Fall and knitting, reading, snowboarding or cross country skiing in the winter. I also love to cook long meals in the winter months.
